  • The Charterhouse Residential

Year 3 had a superb time on residential at the Charterhouse Outdoor Activity Centre last week! We improved our team-building skills through participation in a number of activities, including shelter-building, archery, a blind-folded fantasy trail, fire-lighting, ‘night-walking’ and a variety of team games. We learnt many invaluable life-skills such as how to communicate better with each other, perseverance, determination, patience, trust and working together.

Considering it was the first time away from parents or carers for many of our Year 3 pupils, they ALL managed extremely well and looked after each other (as well as us oldies who tagged along with them)!

  • The Romans

Kestrel Class and Falcon Class had the opportunity to visit a Roman Fortress and Baths in Caerleon, Wales to find out more about life of Ancient Romans in Britain. On the trip we visited the museum and had a talk from the Museum Guide about what life was like at The Fortress. In the museum there were lots of artefacts like money, pottery and armour which gave us an indication of the daily lives of those living around Caerleon at that time. We then spent time learning about medicine used in Ancient Rome and had the opportunity to try on some child sized armour in a barrack room. After lunch we walked through the village to The Roman Baths and The Amphitheatre where we found out about some of the things Ancient Romans enjoyed as entertainment. We had two fantastic trips and the children seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves as well as further develop their knowledge about this fascinating period of history.

  • Rocks, Soils and Fossils

This half term we will be learning through two Science topics in the run up to Christmas. The first is ‘Rocks, Soils and Fossils’ and then ‘Light’. The children will learn about rocks, soils and fossils  through scientific investigation and discovery, in a practical way. The learning will be enriched through our English work on Mary Anning who discovered an Ichthyosaur as well as many other exciting discoveries on Lyme Regis Beach. The children will get the opportunity to learn about different rocks and their uses and use their computing skills to develop a database of rocks. The children will have the opportunity to create some pieces of art inspired by their knowledge of rocks and fossils too.
