Lego Wedo Trip to Bath Uni

June 26, 2017
  • Lego Wedo Club visit to ‘First Lego League International Open Championship @ Bath University’

On Thursday 22nd June, the Lego WeDo club had a fantastic trip to Bath University to see Lego robots made by children and young adults from around the world. They watched robots competing with each other to carry out set tasks. The teams were given since September to make their robot and program it to perform the tasks like firing round pieces into boxes, guide their robot around a course and even make their robot lift itself off the table. The theme this year was ‘Animal Allies’ and there were a huge variety of robots and themes including ‘bees and honey’ and ‘reducing animal accidents’.

The Lego WeDo club children had the opportunity to watch the teams practising and competing and look around the group ‘pits’ where they spoke to international team members. They also got to make Lego models, have photos taken in a booth and explore The Dyson Foundation stand. They also really enjoyed watching an inspirational film in the cinema there about young engineers from around the world where they received a ‘goodie bag.’

A huge thank you to Mrs Dormer for making this trip happen and spending so much time with us on the day.  The club had a fantastic day and it may well have helped to inspire new engineers of the future!
