Eco-Schools

  • At Cheddar First School we care about the environment and take our role in helping protect the planet very seriously. We want our pupils to be able to make informed choices and to help them develop sustainable lifestyles.

We have worked hard to develop our school environment and to reduce our carbon footprint. We are members of the Eco-Schools programme and we are working towards achieving a Silver award.

Every child in the school belongs to an Eco-action-team. Each team is responsible for one of the following areas:

    • Litter
    • Waste
    • Energy
    • Water
    • School Grounds & Bio-diversity
    • Healthy Living
    • Transport
    • Global Citizenship

The teams play a key role in making decisions about the things we need to do reduce the environmental impact of the school. It is the teams’ job to carry out an audit of the school for their area, to identify possible improvements. Ambassadors from each team form an eco-committee and together with staff, parents and governors co-ordinate an action plan. Each eco-action team is responsible for carrying out their part of the action plan. This is to ensure everything gets done and everyone is doing their fair share to make sure we are helping the environment as much as we possibly can.
