About Cheddar First School

Find out more about our school
Cheddar First School is a friendly and inclusive school where there is an ethos of caring and sharing and respect for the individual.

Cheddar First School takes children aged from four to nine years, who are divided between ten classes in this successful village school.

We feel privileged to work with young, enthusiastic learners and want to make their time with us as exciting and productive as possible. Working together with parents we hope to help all children develop their individual strengths and develop their personal skills, whatever their starting points. We aim to be a school where people feel welcome and valued and where children can develop the confidence and independence necessary for personal success.

We have a dedicated and enthusiastic team of teaching and non-teaching staff who work with governors and parents to provide all children with a broad, stimulating and relevant education in a calm and purposeful learning environment.

We are fortunate in having a purpose built school with a wide range of facilities, such as an ICT suite, library and studio room. We have a wonderful outdoor environment including a ‘Forest school’ area, pond and garden areas as well as a large field. These outdoor spaces are used for a wide variety of learning experiences for all age groups. The playground has recently been extensively refurbished to promote positive play and physical and creative challenges for all the children.

Earlybirds pre-school is located in the school grounds and Foundation stage staff work closely with Earlybirds and other local nurseries to ensure our youngest learners have a smooth transition into school.

Cheddar First School forms part of the Mendip Edge Federation together with Shipham and Draycott and Rodney Stoke First Schools and Fairlands Middle School. Established in 2014, the schools share a governing body and collaborate closely to extend and enrich the learning experiences and achievements of pupils within our schools. The Federation is part of a group of schools known as the Cheddar Valley Learning Partnership which includes nine First Schools, Two Middle Schools and The Kings of Wessex Academy.
